Event planners and suppliers have to wait a few years to make pitches to sponsors for 2010 Olympic Winter Games. But those in Vancouver's event planning industry can position their business to nab what will likely be highly competitive contracts....

The Bentall Centre and office mall complex's vice-president and general manager Jon Wellman said his staff were extremely hyped about he prospects of Vancouver hosting the 2010 Olympic Games.

Wellman's team started planning an Olympic theme for the outdoor tenant appreciation days before the city was officially awarded the games in July 2004. He hired Create Your Own Events Ltd. President Denise Dickson and encouraged her to organize and event with torches, Olympic rings and friendly sporting competition...

Events at the Bentall festival included a mini-luge, curling with ice blocks instead of stones and a tricycle sled race. Along with a torch runner carrying a mock torch, the three day event included gold, silver and bronze ribbons to top finishers. Each day's overall winner won a gold medal filled with chocolate and bearing the Bentall name.
